Devising a utilities supply concept for Jülich Brainergy Park

Brainergy Park is a commercial development in North Rhine-Westphalia. In terms of its energy supply, it is intended to be a technologically open living lab and to live up to its own aspiration of being a “lighthouse project”. The energy generation, grid and storage infrastructure must be designed to meet the requirements for flexibility, security, efficiency, environmental friendliness, and innovation. Various environmental heat sources, waste heat from the businesses’ facilities or also classical energy sources are to be combined to provide energy. Users are expected to function as prosumers, taking energy from the grid when needed and feeding energy into it when they generate a surplus.

Together with its project partners, Fichtner undertook the engineering services to come up with a basic design of the energy supply systems for Brainergy Park.

Fichtner’s services:

  • § Establishing the basis of the project including assessing the cost framework
  • § Preliminary design with cost estimate
  • § Basic design including cost calculation
